Resort World Genting is already one of the top tourist destinations in the country; what more when the planned Genting Highland 20th Century Fox Theme Park finally opens to the public?
If you didn’t already know, the Casino-Resort is actually a hillstation located on top of a mountain. Its cool climate and amazing casinos make it the ideal place for a nice time.
It gives Malaysians an escape from the sweltering tropical heat, while its casino games provide a fun chance at winning big prizes. They have everything from slot machines, table games to jackpots.
But that’s not all there is to see! You can also browse through Genting Highland best food spots that boast of diverse cuisine and delicious food. Oh, and did we mention that they also have cable cars, shopping malls and theme parks?
The Future of Genting Highland’s Theme Park
In fact, one of its theme parks (or what was soon to be a theme park) is causing quite a stir in Malaysian news today.
In 2013, Genting Highland signed a contract with 20th Century Fox to create their very own Theme Park. It was even rumored to be called “20th Century Fox World“, featuring Fox movie-themed rides and attractions. This is similar to Disneyland and Universal Studios Theme Park in Singapore.
It was supposed to be perfect. Many Malaysians have been keeping tabs on the almost-finished rides, posting blue prints on the internet. But both Genting Highlands and 20th Century Fox failed to foresee the sudden merger with another American film studio giant.
We’re talking about 20th Century Fox Film Corporation’s sudden merge with Walt Disney Studios. Since this hit the news, tons of comic book fans rejoiced and celebrated. This excited Marvel fans since they will get to see their beloved mutant superheroes become part of the cinematic universe they really belonged to. But this is not good for Genting Highlands.
Fox & Mouse vs. Genting Highland
In keeping with Disney’s family-friendly branding, the company decided to halt the construction of the 20th Century Fox Theme Park in Genting Highland. Well, that’s what Resort World Genting cites in their lawsuit against the American Film Studio.
The Casino-Resort in Malaysia outlined in their lawsuit that 20th Century Fox intentionally started becoming uncooperative to purposefully halt operations and delay construction of the theme park, all so they could have a reason to back off the deals.
The theme park was originally set to open in 2016. It was continuously delayed until the developers set the theme park to open its doors on the first half of 2019. There’s still no sign of this happening anytime soon.
Delaying the 20th Century Fox Theme Park
Genting Highland says that 20th Century Fox purposefully delayed operations by withholding approvals for various elements and designs, even going so far as to withdraw approvals that they had already made.
Resort World Genting’s poor designers even had to recreate “Ice Age” characters from scratch, all because Fox never bothered providing digital assets for them. They also held up the process for obtaining the needed clips from “Planet of the Apes”.
Although most of the rides and attractions are nearing completion, it was impossible to meet the sudden default that Fox issued. This default mandates that Genting Highland open the theme park all within 30 days.
For Genting Highland, this meant that 20th Century Fox wanted out of their deal. What’s worse is they didn’t even outright say it, using underhanded moves to cancel the billion-dollar theme park.
Genting Highland Happy Ending
So, is the 20th Century Theme Park a no go?
Not necessarily. Since Genting Highlands issued the lawsuit, 20th Century Fox and Disney are both quick to claim that none of the statements issued by the Malaysian Casino Resort were true. It’s yet to be seen what will happen with the almost-completed theme park in Resort World Genting’s grounds. Maybe they can consider a Pokemon Theme Park instead.
Whatever may happen, families can still enjoy many of Genting Highland’s fun attractions! Both outside and inside Genting Highland theme parks are already open to the public, along with the new mall, Awana SkyCentral, where families can go on shopping sprees galore.
There’s delicious food at various restaurants, and even cable cars for those looking for a good view. The adults can enjoy a good casino game and even get big, amazing prizes! Or, even better, they can try out popular online casinos in Malaysia such as EMPIRE777.
Though the Genting Malaysia Fox Theme Park may cause setbacks for Resort World Malaysia right now, we’re sure that they’ll get through it eventually. For now, both locals and tourists can enjoy the existing attractions Resort World Genting has to offer.
